My oferenda honors my late grandfather. He died a day before his birthday on May 4th, 2012. He grew up in Israel and moved to the United States later in his life. He lived in New York and moved to California after he met my grandmother. He started his own shop in San Diego and made his living like that. My ofrenda features ivy because his backyard was filled with ivy, and it also featured poppyseed bagels because they were his favorite food and are what his nickname is based off of. The Costco membership card is his personal possession. |

Dia De Los Muertos Reflection How challenging was this project for you? Be specific. This project wasn't very difficult in general, however I did have trouble making my ofrenda on time. I made mine on my grandfather, but I couldn't obtain any personal possessions of his for the ofrenda. I had to improvise at the end end print out a costco membership card, something he definitely possessed and used a lot. What did you enjoy most about this Cultural Connections project? I enjoyed the fact that we took a deeper look into a culture that is just across the border from us and even in the United States. I had been exposed to this culture before but I thought it was super cool that we went to a festival for Dia de Los Muertos and got to experience it first hand. Did you receive critique and feedback from anyone (teacher, parent, classmate, etc)? If so, who? Was the feedback helpful? (This could be for any part of the project, illustrated journal, ofrenda, exhibition) Yes I did receive critique from my many of my classmates on my ofrenda. It was straight to the point and it helped me hit every point that I needed for the requirements. What grade do you think you deserve? Why? I think I deserve an A on my project because I spent a lot of time formulating what I would do for my ofrenda, and I think that the work I put into it was A work. If you could change something about this project, what would it be? If I could change something about this project I would change the amount of time we had to make our ofrendas. If we had an extra week I bet that all the ofrendas would be 10 times better. |
