Week of Inspirational Math
Our class spent 5 days on these problems and watching videos in order to inspire people who don't quite feel that good at math that they have just as much potential as anyone else. The four activities that we did were "Building Shapes", "Number Penny Visuals", "One-cut Geometry", and "Square Mania". Building shapes was an activity where our table was given a 7 foot rope tied together and we were tasked with shapes we had to create with it, each of us holding at least one hand on the rope. Number penny visuals was an activity where we had patterns of circles and we had to use 100 pennies and arrange them in stacks that are equal in each group. One cut geometry was an activity where we are tasked with creating an isosceles triangle on a patty paper with one cut without using the edge of that paper. Square mania was an activity where we had a rectangle separated into multiple squares with line segments. We had to figure out how many squares the line segamnets actually made.
Each video we watched also gave off a different message. The first one
Square mania was my favorite activity out of them all
